Connections

Here are some things that I like.

  • XKCD – A webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math, and language. It’s written by a young ex-NASA scientist who decided that writing a webcomic was more rewarding than firing rockets at large rocks.
  • FERROUSWHEEL – round and round it goes. This thing is a blog by my friend Joel P, who works on artificial intelligence. I swear it improves my intelligence just to read it.
  • JEZ KEMP – This thing is full of other things made by Jez, who is from England, and continues the colonising traditions of his forefathers by coming to NZ to culturalise us with music and words. I’m quite pleased he’s done that, actually.
  • SERENDIP’S EXCHANGE – One day I typed the word ‘serendipity’ into my browser’s address bar. I found this thing. It’s full of deeply interesting things about brains, behaviour, cognitive science, and biology.
  • MASSAGE NZ – Massage therapy is a thing I like very much. This site is a good gateway for finding out some more about it. I also like this thing.
  • THE SHOW WITH ZE FRANK – Okay, this thing is a little old, but I still like it. His blog is also quite lovely. You should definitely play his games, Christian, Buddhist and Atheist.
  • SEXGEAR – Everyone likes to play with toys. We learn by playing, and I like to think I play well with others.
  • ICANHASCHEEZEBURGER? – Lolcats, lolpups, all user-created. There are also things in Engrish. Even I made some. I also laughed my bottoms off.
  • SOMEECARDS – Make your own e-cards and send them to people you love. Or your bank manager. Or your mum’s pilates instructor. Anyone, really. Or you can be very lazy and use another person’s talent instead of your own. After all, that’s what the interweb was designed for in the first place.
  • T-SHIRT HELL – Do you know what an origasm is? Have you ever fucked someone blind? Do you support single moms? You should get one of these tee shirts.
  • POST SECRET – Got some things you need to tell everyone in the world except for the person you really wanna tell? Send them here. Alternatively you can read them all, feel less alone and more connected to the world, and perhaps work up the courage to actually say what you need to say to whom you need to say it. Regret, Loss, Fear, Love, Beauty:::It’s all right here, and it’s beautiful and real.
  • INEEDSOMEFINEWINEANDYOU – This thing is an artistic blog by my friend MarieCG, a German who I met in Melbourne who now lives in Auckland and makes some wonderous things. Check some of them out here.
  • MAHUIKA – Spirit Guardian of Fire. This is a blog thing by LadyM, who is beautiful and sexy and clever and generally just awesome. You’ll like this thing.
  • EMAILS FROM CRAZY PEOPLE – If you like reading things that reassure you that you’re not as insane as other people, click through and have a wee read.
  • KIVA MICROLOANS – Use this thing to loan money directly to individuals and groups of budding entrepreneurs in developing countries, for US$25 and up. I’ve made two loans so far, the second with the money from the first being repaid in full. Also gives you updates on how your loan recipients are progressing, and lets you network with other loaners. So don’t be a loner; be a loaner. Now that’s what I call development.
  • STUFF WHITE PEOPLE LIKE – These things are rib-bendingly funny — because they’re true.
  • COUCH SURFING – A networking site for aficionados of the fine sport of surfing the couches of strangers. This thing is nothing but good vibes, good times, and good people. If you like this thing, you can also check out Hitch-Hikers.org (rest of the world) and JayRide (NZ only).
  • DISCO UNDERWORLD – A magazine-type thing that comes in PDF, blog, or print format. Full of crazysexycool stuff, compelling interviews and provocative articles. I came across is while at the following thing:
  • PECHA-KUCHA – A Japanese term meaning “chit-chat”, this is a thing full of little things, being presentations of 20 slides shown for 20 seconds each and spoken to by a myriad cornucopia of fascinating presenters. The next one can’t come too soon.
  • JUST SAY IT – You know I love you. Or do you? Do you even know who I am? You might think you do, but you’ll just have to guess a bit, because this thing is a site where you can tell people how much you love them and why, anonymously. It fuzzles my cockles, it does. Love is universal in distribution; unique in application. Awwww….  All right, that’s enough, calm down. 🙂

Kthxbye!
